Jyotish, also called Vedic Astrology, is the astrology of India with its origins in the Vedas, the ancient scriptures of India. The Vedas were cognized by the rishis (great sages) of India and are the repository of all knowledge. Jyotish, which translates as “light”, is the “eye of the Vedas.” It illumines, or brings to light, Vedic knowledge and provides the vehicle by which this supreme wisdom can be applied to the life of each individual and to the world at large. Although ancient, this system of knowledge is as applicable to the affairs of men today as it was thousands of years ago when it was cognized by the rishis of India. Each person is born at the exact moment when the stars align with their destiny. The natal horoscope is cast for the exact minute and place of your birth. It is uniquely yours. It reveals your past, present and probable future. It is the blueprint of your personal karma indicating
Jyotish can provide both practical and spiritual insight into every area of your life and can bring clarity and guidance to all situations. It can speak to the most mundane questions of life as well as the most esoteric. Your horoscope is God's gift to you to enable you to make the most of your life. It is a divine roadmap which allows you to channel your energies toward a more fulfilling and enlightened life. A Jyotish consultation will provide you with a valuable reference that will continue to assist you in making your plans as your life journey progresses. Jyotish also can provide assistance in cases where you do not have your actual birth time. For information on the specific readings I can provide, please click on services. How Is Jyotish different from Western Astrology?
There are a number of differences between the two systems. Jyotish uses the sidereal zodiac, which is aligned with the stars in the heavens, an accurate reflection of the sky at any given moment. Western Astrology uses the tropical zodiac which is oriented to the seasons and does not correspond to where the stars actually are positioned in the heavens. |

The Moon and the Ascendant (the sign rising on the eastern horizon at the moment of a person's birth) are the pivotal points in Jyotish. The ascendant is crucial for Vedic horoscope interpretation because it determines the rulerships of the various houses. House rulerships influence the basic nature of a given planet and how the planet will act in a given chart. The Moon is essential to a Vedic horoscope interpretation because it represents our emotional nature and our perception and shows how we interact with the world.Another feature of Jyotish is the Dasa System. This is a system of planetary cycles which indicates when a planet's influence comes to the fore in a person's life, enabling the client to understand and make better use of the different periods of one's life. Also unique to Jyotish are the Yogas. These are planetary combinations that can powerfully intensify the experience of a given area of life either above or below the baseline of the average life experience. Depending on the inherent nature of the planets involved, their strength or weakness, and the areas of the horoscope they activate, yogas indicate areas of success and pleasure or difficulty and pain; where one can soar easily or where one meets the most difficult challenges. Jyotish is a rich tradition with many techniques to help you navigate your life's journey to the fullest. |
