Jyotish, also called Vedic Astrology, is the astrology of India with its origins in the Vedas, the ancient scriptures of India. How Is Jyotish different from Western Astrology?
There are a number of differences between the two systems. Jyotish uses the sidereal zodiac, which is aligned with the stars in the heavens, an accurate reflection of the sky at any given moment. Western Astrology uses the tropical zodiac which is oriented to the seasons and does not correspond to where the stars actually are positioned in the heavens. |

 The Moon and the Ascendant (the sign rising on the eastern horizon at the moment of a person's birth) are the pivotal points in Jyotish. The ascendant is crucial for Vedic horoscope interpretation because it determines the rulerships of the various houses.
